Call now to be connected with a compassionate treatment specialist.

According to the Big Book, Step 3 is a very important one. Many recovering addicts can vouch for this as well. In Chapter 5 of the Big Book, there are many statements about the journey through Step 3. It talks about how this step can help you to build your new lifestyle in recovery. If you are ready to do that, learning more about Step 3 can help. Whether you do this in an alcohol treatment center or another type of recovery program, the benefits could be outstanding.

Taking This Step with Someone Understanding

Chapter 5 of the Big Book states, “We found it very desirable to take this spiritual step with an understanding person, such as our wife, best friend, or spiritual advisor. But it is better to meet God alone than with one who might misunderstand.” Think about this. Wouldn’t it be great to have a support team of people who understand what you are overcoming? Wouldn’t it be great to have a team of people surrounding you in recovery who get what you are going through? Having these people support you and be there for you throughout you recovery process, especially through the spiritual aspects of the journey, can be life-changing in itself. If you haven’t done so already, start building your support network today.

Personal House Cleaning

Chapter 5 of the Big Book also states, “Next we launched out on a course of vigorous action, the first step of which is a personal housecleaning, which many of us have never attempted. Though our decision was a vital and crucial step, it could have little permanent affect once followed by a strenuous effort to face, and to be rid of, the things in ourselves which had been blocking us. Our liquor was but a symptom. So we had to get down to the causes and conditions.” What does this mean to you? Have you ever tried personal house cleaning? Have you ever tried to get to the bottom of your addiction? Were you ever able to talk about the issues related to your alcohol abuse? If not, now is the time. When going to an alcohol rehab center, you can speak your truth, speak your story.

Causes and Conditions

After you have talked more about and explored the causes and conditions related to your alcohol addiction, you will move forward to Step 4. This is where you will be taking your personal inventory. It should be known that this step is quite time consuming. However, if you have made the best of Step 3 and really worked that step thoroughly, you will have a good foundation ready, so you can take on Step 4 with more confidence.

Have you started working on Step 3 yet? “Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.” If not, let an alcohol rehabilitation center help you today. If you have started, but still need to work on it more, you can get help with that as well.
