When in recovery from an alcohol addiction or drug addiction, there is one thing that is for sure – You must pass it all over to your Higher Power. No matter who your Higher Power might be, passing everything over to them is essential to the success of your recovery. There are some steps you can take to ensure that you are passing it all over to your Higher Power. If you take these steps, you are less likely to relapse and more likely to have a longer recovering lifestyle.

Talk About How You Made Your Self-Appraisal

When attending a drug rehab or alcohol rehab, or even when you are just in recovery from an addiction to drugs or alcohol, you need to talk about how you made your self-appraisal. You can talk about this through prayer to your Higher Power, to another person, or even to yourself. No matter who you talk to, just explain how you appraised your life and what you have learned from the process.

Talk About How You Straightened Out Your Past

In Chapter 7 of the Big Book, it also mentions that you need to talk about how you straightened out your past. What are you doing differently now that you are overcoming your addiction? How are things different now that you are attending drug rehabilitation or alcohol rehabilitation? What things have you given up? What behaviors have you changed to assure that your life will not head back down the addictive path?

Talk About Why You Are Looking to Your Higher Power for Help

Lastly, you need to talk about why you are looking to your Higher Power for help. If you are going to hand it all over to your Higher Power and let go of control, you need to figure out why you are looking to your Higher Power for help. For most recovering alcoholics and addicts, they need to have help handling obstacles in their life. They need to know they are not alone. Lastly, they need to know there is someone or something out there that is helping them head down the right path in life.

If you can do these things, you can hand it all over to your Higher Power in recovery from you addiction. You can let go of what is holding you back, utilize the help from your Higher Power, and move forward with your life. It won’t be easy. However, when you hand it all over to your Higher Power you are much more likely to succeed in your recovery from an addiction.
