Best Things to Ask of Your Higher Power in Recovery

In Chapter 5 of the Big Book, it states “God, I offer myself to Thee — to build with me and do with me as Thou wilt. Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will. Take away my difficulties, that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of life. May I do Thy will always.” What does all of this mean for your recovery? Well, it means you can ask your Higher Power to help build you up, relieve you of your struggles, and help you to overcome difficulties in life.

Building You Up

When you ask your Higher Power to build you up, whether this is during your attendance of an addiction rehab program, or before or after the program, great things can happen. After living an addictive lifestyle for any length of time, you need to find a way to rebuild your life. You need to find a way to rebuild your own values, self-confidence, strength, and so much more. Trying to do that all on your own can be terrifying and nearly impossible. However, if you ask your Higher Power to help build you up in recovery, things can go much smoother for you.

Relieving You of Struggles

Your Higher Power can help you reduce the struggles in your life as well. Many alcohol treatment center programs teach that looking to your Higher Power for help with struggles is very beneficial. When you ask your Higher Power to help relieve you of your struggles, you are asking for a helping hand. You are asking to not have to fight the addiction and all the struggles that go with it alone. When your Higher Power helps relieve you of the struggles you have, you will feel much lighter. You will feel a huge weight lifted off you, which makes recovery that much easier.

Overcome Difficulties

When you are in recovery from an alcohol addiction, you should also ask your Higher Power to help you overcome difficulties. This is a bit different than the struggles you may be experiencing. For instance, you may have a difficulty avoiding social events with alcohol. You may have difficulties turning away toxic people. If you can ask your Higher Power for help in overcoming these difficulties and others, you can feel more at ease in recovery. You can feel less stress and more contentment with your recovering lifestyle as well.

Recovering from an alcohol addiction is not the easiest thing in the world. However, when you get help from a drug rehabilitation center and your Higher Power, your world can be transformed. You can have control over your life and reduce your cravings for alcohol. If this is the type of life you want to have, choose to start getting the help you need today. It only takes that first step and then you can get guidance through your recovering lifestyle.
