Drug abuse can severely affect an individual’s life and relationship. Addiction is far more common than you may think. Almost 20.7 million Americans suffer from some form of substance abuse. Sadly, there is no cure for addiction and substance abuse disorders. However, it can be treated and managed with the proper drug addiction treatment at rehabs in Tennessee.

Here are various treatment therapies for treating addiction.

The individual therapy

In individual therapy, the patient can share their problems and emotions with the therapist.  It helps them face their problems and develop coping methods to manage triggers and step away from addictive substances and behaviors.

Group therapy and family therapy

It is similar to individual therapy, but the sessions are held with family members and people going through similar problems under the guidance of a therapist. It helps people relate with others and also speak openly about their feelings.

Cognitive-behavioral therapy

Under this therapy, the patient is encouraged to question and process recurring thoughts to single out the negative ones. Doing so helps addicts recognize negative patterns and behaviors that push them to use drugs. They also help develop coping strategies to overcome such thoughts.

Contingency management

This form of therapy is used to reinforce sobriety after recovery. It is highly beneficial in reducing droppings and relapses in patients. CM uses rewards and motivation techniques to motivate people to stay sober.

12-step facilitation

Another therapy aims to encourage people to maintain abstinence by engaging them in 12-step peer support groups. These support groups host meetings and conduct activities to encourage people to remain sober.

Motivational interviewing

It helps people embrace their efforts to overcome their addictions. It improves the patient’s motivation to keep trying to get better and not give up when things get complicated. It helps people develop a self-motivation routine, so they don’t fall off the wagon if there is no one to support them.

Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT)

REBT focuses on helping patients identify and challenge destructive thoughts and actions and replace them with positive and healthier ones. It is highly beneficial in assisting people to achieve emotional well-being in the long run as it promotes rational thinking in stressful situations rather than giving in to fear.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is designed to help people overcome traumatic experiences and the anxiety and fear it causes. It uses dual stimulation wherein the person talks about their past trauma while at the same time engaging in other activities.
