You may think that you can get rid of your addiction all by yourself. But addiction recovery is not possible without professional care and help. Rehabs are a great option if you have any addiction to drugs or alcohol. However, you may be skeptical about it because of some myths about rehab. Read this blog to know about those myths:

Following are some common myths about rehabs:

  1. You will get fired if you go to a rehab- You may believe that you will have to leave your job to join rehab or will be fired as a result of it. However, this is not true. As per the law, a company cannot terminate the employment of any individual who wishes to seek addiction recovery treatment. Therefore, you must talk to your HR manager and determine your options for taking off from work.
  2. It is costly- You may think that attending rehab is very expensive. However, many insurance companies provide coverage for addiction treatments. Many rehab centers also offer scholarships and financing options.
  3. You have to be religious- Earlier, rehab programs required people to be religious. Over time, things changed, and non-faith-based treatment programs became popular. Many programs like SMART Recovery offer addiction recovery irrespective of your beliefs, i.e., you do not have to be religious necessarily.
  4. Your addiction needs to be at the worst before joining rehab- By waiting for your addiction to get worse, you are delaying your recovery process. You must get help now by joining rehab and starting your recovery treatment.
  5. It does not work- Many people have successfully recovered from their addictions with the help of successful rehabs. But rehabs are not like magic. They can provide you the care and the things you need. But you will also have to put in the efforts
  6. It is not helpful to join rehab once again- You may have gone to rehab earlier but still can not get rid of addictions. It is normal as addictions are relapsing in nature. You must join rehab once again and fight with every ounce of your body. Do not blame yourself or the treatment, and instead, focus on what you can learn from your experiences.
  7. Not everyone needs it- You may believe that you are not addicted to alcohol or drugs and can stop consuming them at will. However, addiction is a chronic disease and can not be solved on its own. Thus, you must join a rehab to get professional help and be willing to join the path of recovery.
  8. It does not work if you join it forcefully – You may enter rehab because of pressure from your loved ones or court order. You must not think that since you have joined it forcefully, you will not achieve effective results. Sometimes, people who have attended rehab under some pressure have shown better progress.
