Ready to Get Help?

Call now to be connected with a compassionate treatment specialist.

According to Chapter 8 of the Big Book, there are many things you can do if your spouse wants to get help with their alcoholism. While every person is different, it is essential that you know what steps to take, so you can help without overstepping your boundaries. Remember, you can be there to help your spouse, without trying to take over the situation.

Find a List of Alcohol or Drug Rehab Programs

If your spouse is ready to accept help for their alcoholism, it can be helpful if you find them a list of alcohol or drug rehab programs they can attend. You will want to find one that will fit their needs. They may want to stay close to home and that is alright. Likely, there are alcohol rehabilitation programs close to your home.

Don’t Crowd Your Spouse

One thing that you should remember is that if your spouse does accept help for their alcoholism, you still shouldn’t crowd them. Having you stand over them, watching their every move, is going to make them nervous and they might change their mind about getting help. If you don’t crowd your spouse, they may be more open with you about their issues and their recovery, as well.

Be There for Your Spouse

Without crowding your spouse, you can still be there for them. You can stand by their side as they enter into an alcohol or drug rehab center. When they leave the rehab program and work through the recovery process, you can be there to support them. When they need someone to vent to, just listen. Don’t offer advice unless they ask for it. Just be there as part of their support system.

These are some of the things that you can do if your spouse is willing to get help for their alcoholism. While every recovering alcoholic will go at their own pace, by doing these things you can help to support your spouse through this tough time. If they are ready today to go into alcohol or drug treatment centers have them call 888-992-7955 right away.
